ALICE NO PAÍS DAS MARAVILHAS
2018 Created by Maria João Luís and Ricardo Neves-NevesAlice no País das Maravilhas is Charles Lutwidge Dodgson’s best known work, published in 1865, under the pseudonym of Lewis Carroll. It is one of the more renowned works of the Nonsense and Absurd genre.
A little girl named Alice is allured through her own curiosity into a rabbit’s hole, where she falls in and is transported into a whimsical place, inhabited by very peculiar creatures and where an absurd logic reigns over a paralel dimension to ours. It’s a critical eye over the Victorian England, inspired by real people from Carroll’s own social environment. The language created by Carrol, in a constant escape from racionalism and its criticism, swerves this work from the literary pattern of that time. Here, the nonsense as a language comes as a liberation from a model of speech or pre-defined literary rules, aswell as from the social strickness that took over the Victorian Era.
